Common Questions

QUESTIONS
ANSWERED.

We believe informed clients make better decisions. Here are answers to what we hear most often.

Ask Us Directly
Your first consultation with us is completely free. We believe you should be able to speak with a lawyer and understand your situation before making any financial commitment. After the initial meeting, we provide a clear, written fee estimate before any work begins.
An uncontested divorce with no outstanding issues can often be finalized within 4–6 months. Contested divorces involving property division, support, or custody disputes can take 1–3 years depending on complexity and whether the matter proceeds to trial. We work to resolve matters as efficiently as possible.
Yes. A Will is not just about assets — it names a guardian for minor children, dictates your wishes for digital accounts, and spares your family the cost and delay of intestate administration. We offer streamlined Will packages specifically designed for young families and individuals at straightforward price points.
A Power of Attorney (POA) appoints someone to manage your finances and/or personal care if you become unable to do so. In Ontario, there are two kinds: POA for Property and POA for Personal Care. Every adult should have both. Without them, your family may need to apply to court — an expensive and time-consuming process.
Child support in Ontario is calculated using the Federal Child Support Guidelines, which set amounts based on the paying parent's gross annual income and the number of children. Special or extraordinary expenses (childcare, medical, extracurricular) are typically shared proportionally. We'll provide you with a clear calculation at your consultation.
Absolutely — the majority of our family law matters are resolved through negotiation, collaborative law, or mediation. Avoiding court saves time, money, and emotional stress for everyone involved, especially children. We always pursue the most efficient path to resolution first, reserving litigation for when it's truly necessary.
